WHAT’S IN THE NEWS, P3?
By Primary SFPB
Last February, P3 students learned about news reports and then had the chance to practice reporting the news about things happening around
them (or even in their imagination!) . After learning about what news reports were from reading their textbook and other books, they practiced
the skills and discovered the features they needed to create their own report. Interviewing was a skill they got to practice before and during the
project.
The students got to learn about ‘news’ is a fun way when their teacher visited them as a DINOSAUR. Yes, their teacher dressed as a T-Rex
Dinosaur. Then, they had the opportunity to choose their own idea to create and become news reporters. Each student made a video where
they told the news and interviewed a ‘witness’. A special thank you to all the parents, brothers, sisters and friends who helped the students to
complete the task. Their stories ranged from “The Lost Handphone”, “The Hot Curling Iron”, “The Pokemon Living in the Garden”, and many other
creative ideas.
“Watching the students learn a brand new topic and get creative was fantastic to see,” commented Ms Caca, the homeroom teacher of P3D.
P3 Students have been able to see ideas in textbooks and not only relate them to real life, but get to try things practically and in a hands-on
manner. The future looks bright for these amazing students.
