This year primary students have a new lesson called STEAM. STEAM is

an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology,
Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding
student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking.

Primary 4 students had fun activity in STEAM lessons related to forces

and movement. The teacher set a special mission for the students to DARREN
build a roller coaster. Here is the background story. At the end of last term as part of our STEAM lesson, we were set a project to

build a roller coaster. Before I started to build the roller coaster, I needed to
         BACKGROUND make a blueprint rst.

Rockin' Roller Coasters is a company that builds and operates large
amusement parks across the United States. These parks are popular, for While working on this project, I found it quite di cult yet delightful. One of
their elaborate but safe, roller coasters and rides. the things that was quite hard to do was making the funnel track. After I

nished the roller coaster track, I had to test it by placing a marble at the
Rockin' Roller Coaster plants to build a new amusement park in your top of the track. I was so pleased to see the marbles moving down the
city. The CEO is looking for a new thrilling roller coaster to attract track, especially when the marbles were spinning for a while before enter-
people from miles around. ing the funnel track.

MISSION The lesson I learned while building this roller coaster was that I got to know

Design, build, and name a roller coaster. the speed of the marbles while they were on track.

Your roller coaster must meet the following guidelines:

Roller coasters must include at least two of the following design
               elements: turns, loops and drops.
The total length of the coaster track must be a minimum of 3ft

               and a maximum of 8ft.

The Primary 4 students created amazing designs which went way
beyond our expectations. Here are works from Briana Milanesa
Susanto and Darren Jevan Paulus Siburian.
Written by: Ms. Maria Patricia Wibisono

Well done Briana and Darren and the rest of Primary 4 students!!
