                                          INDEPENDENCE DAY

                                                  CELEBRATION

The independence of the Republic of Indonesia which is commemorated every August 17 usually
celebrated by the entire Spring eld family. The meaning of the celebration is freedom and that
everyone is free to rejoice about this. However, this year August arrived while we were (and still are)

battling with the COVID-19 pandemic. Not to be able to go out or have fun with friends, just being
stuck at home with very limited space to roam around seemed the opposite of freedom.

Determined not to be de ned by the limitation and current situation, we challenged our families to

celebrate the 75 Independence Day in their homes and send us some pictures and videos of them
doing so. The results were amazing. The students and their family conducted some traditional activities
such as eating crackers, making tumpeng rice, decorating bicycles, making handicrafts using recycled
material while decorating their homes or wearing clothes with a red and white theme like the colours

of the Indonesian Flag. Despite being in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this does not prevent
children from being happy. Celebrating Independence Day at home, in fact, it becomes more
meaningful because it involved the whole family.

The celebration continued with the online ag ceremony, with all levels working together, with a music
compilation of Indonesian National songs sung by students and teachers, an assembly with wayang,
Indonesian food and tourism places, Kahoot and dressing up in traditional clothing games. Thanks to
all our dedicated parents, especially in helping us to train up the next generation of children to

remember their duties and responsibilities as our ceremonial o cers performed the ag ceremony,
to all our beloved students whom we missed the most and our awesome teachers, we managed to
celebrate the 75 Indonesia Independence Day with great success.

The enthusiasm, the teamwork, the cheers and the big smiles beaming from each student along with
their families sharing in the festivity of the costumes and the decorations were lovely to watch, and you
could feel the warmth wrapped around you, assuring you that we can beat this pandemic as one big
family. Everyone looked happy and enjoyed the activities they took part in together at home and via

online meetings. This event also brought students and families closer together, to have fun together,
and at the same time fostered a sense of love for our country. At the end of the day, this
75 Independence day was a very extraordinary special celebration indeed.
